Rocktown Roasters Coffee Review

Bulletproof coffee

I find humor in the term “coffee snob” it seems like such an insignificant thing to have a strong opinion about.  I wonder tho, if maybe I have actually tumbled into this strange land of coffee snobbishness.

Let me give you the back story…. A few years ago I discovered how much better fresh ground coffee tasted. Almost immediately I purchased myself a coffee bean grinder and was pretty happy with my “new coffee”.  I also became a fan of the delicious coffee drink called bullletproof coffee, this was a great way to have breakfast in  cup and be nourished for the morning tasks. I was on the journey of ridding my kitchen of plastic so when my drip coffee maker kicked the bucket, I found an amazon deal on a french press…. Oh yes, much better coffee!!! I was pretty sure that I had landed on the perfect combo, fresh ground coffee and a nice glass container to brew it. Then one day I realized that there is such a thing as fresh roasted coffee …Whaaat!!! So I could have coffee made with fresh roasted, fresh ground, french pressed, bullet proof coffee!!! This sounded wonderful, but the price knocked the wishing right out of me!!

I kept hearing such good things about fresh roasted coffee, like less preservatives, and more flavor!! I offered to do a review for Paul from Rocktown Roasters , because if anyone was going to know coffee it would be Paul! He sent me two flavors to try, Side Hustle blend, and Waste Not!! I had heard a lot of good stuff about Side Hustle blend and was anxious to taste it, so it was the first flavor I brewed. Sunday morning is a slower time at our place and so I shared with my husband! We both were very impressed. Really good is how I describe it, I do not know any fancy coffee terms but Real Good is my rating! It was not bitter nor had an aftertaste. Yours truly, even drank a cup black, yes black!! The other thing I decided is that fresh roasted coffee is worth the higher price! I also think I may be gifting some to my close friends, because friends don’t let friends drink bad coffee!!! My friends, get you some Side Hustle blend from Rocktown Roasters!!

Currently I am drinking the  Waste Not brew and am enjoying it as well!! Stop by and I promise not to be snobby, I’ll gladly share a cup with you!!

How I Became a healthier Wife & Mother

My Plexus Journey
My Plexus Journey
My Healthy family

I knew something needed to change!!

I had brain fog, headaches, and fatigue, I was also dealing with Endometriosis pain, as well as adhesion pain from 2 C-sections.  Life was not a cheerful place I felt very blue and this was not normal for me.  I had tried the traditional approach for my pain, over the counter pain meds, and a prescription for birth control.  They would give some relief.  During my “time of the month” I had to take oc pain meds( Motrin, Excedrin, Tylenol) the full strength, alternated every 2-3 hrs, and wash them down with caffeine or coffee to get relief.  I was not comfortable with all the side effects of the bc, or the painkillers, but I had to function somehow! The Doctors  only answer was “deal with it the best you can and when you need stronger pain meds we will get a prescription for you, and when you can’t control it then we will schedule a hysterectomy”!! I wasn’t even 30!!  We know we wanted to have at least one more child! So I decided to start figuring this out on my own!! I began researching endometriosis and fatigue, the info was enlightening yet confusing! It appeared to be some sort of deficiency or imbalance, but what exactly caused it, the professionals differed on!!

One thing became clear, I (we) needed a diet change! The American diet is killing us! I started out simple, just cutting out high fructose corn syrup and highly processed wheat products. I also began to limit my sugar intake and pay closer attention to food labels. It is surprising what ingredients are in food! Around this time I also came across a medical journal article talking about Estrogen Dominance and what to do to help re-balance the body.  This was a huge turning point in my research! I now had a list of vitamins and minerals, to supplement my diet with, as well as info on how beauty products like hand cream, deodorant, body wash and shampoo were causing more of an imbalance. So I also changed my toiletries to more natural formulas.

In Feb of 2010 we became pregnant with our youngest son. During this pregnancy I developed a severe case of Diastasis Recti (muscle separation in the abdomen wall).  My recovery and journey back to normal (whatever that is) was very long and painful.  I still was sure I’d need the hysterectomy in the future. We felt that if we couldn’t control the Endo naturally we would need to go the stronger med route( so many health risks).

It was in the summer of 2011 and I realized I hadn’t planted or weeded my flower beds, this was highly unusual for me, I am an outdoors person! I was still dealing with Endo pain and pain from the Diastasis Recti! I was discouraged, some months things felt like they were getting better, than the next month they would regress. I knew the answer was out there, I also knew I needed higher quality supplements but wasn’t sure were to find them. It was around this time that I discovered Trim Healthy Mama eating plan and face-book community. THM was a huge answer to prayer, I learned even more about how our bodies and food work together. I was encouraged by other ladies results and this helped me continue to research.

Enter Plexus! I kept hearing about the pink drink and passed it off as a fad! One day I read one of my friend’s personal health story and I knew she wasn’t the type to share something if it wasn’t legit! I chatted with her, and seriously gave the products some of my research time. I was shocked to realize that they were most of the same supplements I was already taking. One of my big issues/headaches with my current supplements was quality control and what to take with what!! Plexus had already done the research for me and had a simple plan.  All their products were dye and GMO free (big deal to me). What I was reading lined up with research I had already done. The focus was on gut health and as I had learned, the gut is the root of all our health!  I decided to try the Triplex for a couple months –Big changes- less headaches, more energy, less endo pain! I then added the multi-vitamin (xfactor) and the omega (megax) . I began to realize I had not reached for the pain meds, the sodas were not as appealing, and I had plenty of energy for my mom sized days!

As each year passes and I look back and see the big leaps forward my health has taken, I can’t help but praise the Maker of the Universe for the timing of his blessings. I am happy to no longer fear the need of a hysterectomy, I have zero endo pain and naps are now a fun luxury instead of a necessity to get through my day!

I look forward to a future of many years of enjoying activities with my boys, a homestead with our own meat and a big garden and orchard! What is your dream my friend?? What if plexus is your answer as well??

The Cropped Modesty Cami~Review and coupon code

A great option for filling the hole left by modern clothing designers!

Ladies I have a neat review for your from Helen’s Head Coverings.

Not only does she make head scarves, she also makes a cropped Modesty Cami! It is designed to fill the gap left by modern clothing designs. I don’t know any lady who couldn’t make good use of one or five of these!! The cropped Modesty Cami is the perfect wardrobe addition!

A great option for filling the hole left by modern clothing designers!
A great option for filling the hole left by modern clothing designers!

I sent her my measurements via facebook messenger, one for the bottom band and one for the height in front, and told her the color I’d like,I choose black in the poly knit! It was that simple!

The package arrived in about 1 week and I was impressed with the quality of the fabric and lace she used!

I put it on and the fit was great, just right! I wore it all day and didn’t have to adjust or re-position!  The material is just slick enough that it doesn’t grab the top layer, this helps create a smooth profile. The arm holes are generous and yet don’t gape! I like also that when I lean forward it doesn’t give anyone an unwanted peep show! It was very hot the day I first wore it and I was so happy not to need to wear a full cami or shell under my blouse! I’m also excited with the idea of wearing it with some of my tee-shirts with lower necks!

I did try it with one of my wide necked tops and the straps showed a bit ( and so did my bra strap), I feel like that a tee that doesn’t normally show your bra straps but is a bit low in the front it would still work great!

Thank You Helen for a quality item to fill a very needed hole!

Now my friends, head over to Helen’s facebook page and order yours today! When you place the order use this code (#thedelightfulcottage15%) to receive 15% off your order!!

Boys Can be Boys, But not Quietly!!

As a mom of all boys, I am always thinking about either feeding them, or keeping them busy! I am a fan of things that keep them occupied but do not take batteries or make noise! I love to see my boys busy with their imaginations and creating something to play with. If you have children tho, you know that even quiet toys make noise when paired with an active imagination.

Tinkertoy Fun

We discovered this toy set, Tinkertoy/K’nex or Kid K’nex and they work with the Duplo legos.  I also discovered with a little searching that you can get bigger sets for a bit better price, they are called K’nex Education.

My very favorite thing about this set/sets is they are very sturdy and can actually be played with, no need to set the creations on a shelf!! They are great for building eye & hand coordination, and encourage skill building and trouble shooting.

Same old, same old story!

We live in a camper and work on a harvest crew!! Sounds so cool and adventurous.

Harvest 2017 Camper train

Well I’m here to inform you it is the same old, same old story!!

There is still dishes, laundry, parenting, school work, parenting, cleaning, parenting, grocery shopping, laundry, entertaining children, … you get the picture! And you get to do all of it in a space the size of a storage unit.

Walk through it with me here

The new part of the old story is, when you live in a tiny house on wheels, there is less of the cleaning and more family togetherness and skill learning.

Family togetherness is all fun and games till you realize not everyone fits on the couch! But it has been good to learn to respect others personal space and privacy even in the small ways.

Three boys on the couch.
Close Neighbors
School under the awning

There are also lots of opportunities for teaching new skills like how to wash dishes in a small space, or take a bath without getting water on the floor, correct procedure for stabilizing the camper, helping check laundry (running over to the laundry room), and to never leaving an empty ice tray!

Dishes With a smile.
Filling Ice trays

New skills for mom also include, drying laundry on the awning edge to save money, cooking in my instant-pot, learning to dump the black tank (sewer), Cooking portable meals, and navigating small towns (thank goodness GPS knows where the P.O. is). My least favorite new skill is refrigerator Tetras.

All in all I’d say that the new part, of the old story, is mostly positive and is allowing for new growth in many areas of our family.

Things that saved my sanity (or at least space)

Our Little Cottage on Wheels

I have discovered several items that have been space savers for us here in a small space and that helps this claustrophobic mom stay sweet.

I am just going to list the items as well as links ( affiliate links) to them if possible! The links are the underlined words!!

I will say that I didn’t get all these items as new , I like me a good 2nd hand shopping day!!

Clip Hangers, I have found these to not be very handy in tight closets BUT they are wonderful for hanging items to dry both inside and out. I currently have my queen sheets flapping in the breeze thanks to these mighty little workers.

Norwex microfiber clothes, These brilliantly designed cloths self-sanitize in the sunshine and are very durable and absorb so much moisture.  Because they don’t stink I am able to go longer between washes.. Love the money savings on the laundry!! My friend Sara Sells this. (they are an awesome company with a great focus and great host rewards)

Tupperware Modular mates, If you know me you know I use and love tupperware. The Modular Mate system has come in very handy here in our camper.  My Friend Carol Sells This. (hint… having a party will get you the best deals)

Hot plate, It is very hot and dry here and we pay separately for our electric… So cooking outside helps keep the camper cooler and the ac running less. and that is were this friendly little gadget comes in.

Folding tables. These tables are space saving life savers and are much easier to move in any situation.

Woven Rugs, I love the nice woven rag rugs for catching dirt and making the space homey. I know you can get these at most any small Mennonite stores.

Outdoor rug. I have an inexpensive outdoor rug outside the camper and it stops so much dirt and sets the scene for a bit of out door living 🙂

Mini Freezer. This has been a true sanity and budget saver. The fridge freezer in the camper is so small I cant fit two loves of bread and 4 ice trays. Having this extra space has helped me be able to buy larger amounts of food at one time.

Rolling Storage shelving. This handy little rolling rack has been my right hand in my kitchen. I use the top to dry dishes, and the racks hold modular mates and cookbooks.

Hanging Drying rack. This is also very handy for laundry drying or for swimming trunks.

Extendable shower rod. This last item saves my bacon on rainy days. I put it in the center of the shower and hang my drying rack from it. Also works good for a random towel or wet item.

Thank you for taking time to read this , Check back, I may add more links as I remember or find new items I like.

I Say Burn It All!!

Nothing is Precious

It has been a Very Crazy month! In my last post about packing I said we should just sell  it all, I am thinking now that burning it all would be much less hassle! I had 3 yard-sales and listed numerous items on the face book marketplace. Wow, I’ll just say FB marketplace is not for the faint of heart (or for the non Spanish speaking)! I have never answered so many messages or repeated my self so many times!

I have been purging and selling and trashing and purging some more. As moving day got closer and closer I donated and sold even more, It is very eye opening to realize how little you really need to live.

As we started packing the camper and packing the items to store I realized again that there are no precious items. I took 2 trailer loads of stuff to Gift & Thrift and gifted items to friends and threw out even more. Oh It is ridicules how much stuff one family can accumulate. The irony of this is, it is not the first time we have moved, its not even the 5th or 10th time !!!!

On the last couple days before we pulled out, a couple good friends came over and helped me wrap up the final details. One stopped in with doughnuts and folded laundry, one of them packed the last items into the camper from the kitchen and bathroom, and the other started sweeping through bedrooms and helping me finish the last purging, donating, and trashing!

On the morning we headed for Texas, our good friends D&M showed up and brought doughnuts! They helped us finish up all the last min details and snapped pictures for us as we pulled out.. There were tears as we waved goodbye to them and our Virginia life!

It has been a truly crazy but blessed and enlightening month. If I can pass any advice along it would be , “hold nothing to tightly especially if it could bless someone else”!

Want freedom? Sell all your stuff!

Chalkboard Notes
Chalkboard brain dump

Crazy Time

We are packing to move into a camper. This means downsizing greatly! I do not consider myself a pack-rat but I have plenty of stuff that will not fit into the camper. So we have made the decision to sell most of it!

It is interesting how differently you look at your possessions when you have made the choice to let go of them.  These many numerous items that need to go were really weighing me down. I heard a quote some were that said ” All the items we own possess a space in our brains” That is a very true saying, I am loving the freeing feeling that comes with getting rid of stuff!

Getting Organized

I am currently making a list on our chalkboard ( aff. link) that helps me separate items into 3 main categories! The categories are Sell, Keep to Store, Pack in Camper. I also have a couple small categories like: Things to return, Things to give, Items to scrap!

Today my job is to empty a couple closets and set up a space to place boxes for the upcoming moving/yard sale. I read this article on how to have a successful yard sale. I am planning to implement many of the suggestions.

Thanks for stopping in and visiting with me while I pack.

Food boys hate, & a Cleaner Fridge!

Food my Boys Hate!

Help me out, am I the only mom who buys good food to fill the fridge for her family, only to find out they hate it? We eat a lot of yogert, or at least we use to! I have had a stash of it in the fridge for a while (way to long)! I would ask the boys during lunch packing “who wants yogert?” and they responded with gagging noises!!! This mama is fed up. So I started thinking, how can I use this all up?

A Cleaner Fridge.

I pulled all the yogurt cups  out of the fridge and emptied them into a large measuring cup. It was 8+ cups of yogurt!!! Now I have an empty clean fridge drawer to refill, not with yogurt tho!

I pulled a bag of frozen strawberries out of the freezer, some milk, protein powder, a bit of super sweet and the vanilla. We are going to have Strawberry Grande smoothies for supper. I split the strawberries into 5 sections and blended them ,one chunk at a time, with the milk and sweetener and protein powder. After that was blended, I topped of the blender with yogurt and a splash of vanilla. It made 4 huge beer mugs of smoothie with enough left for a refill.  I then pulled out my stove top popcorn popper and popped a Mega bowl full of popcorn topped with nutritional yeast and Himalayan pink salt.

What foods does your family refuse to eat? Have you discovered unique ways to use this food?

Does Mom need this?

Mom needs
Mom needs
How do you know the difference?

Is this truly a want or need? This is the question I try to ask myself every time I am shopping. To say I love to 2nd hand shop would not be overstating, and I also enjoy the convenience of my amazon prime account. Often I catch myself putting things in my cart because they caught my eye. Shopping in real life or online is fun as long as you don’t have buyers regret later. I have discovered that if I pause before checking out and take a hard look at my cart, and ask myself “want or need?” I am much less likely to have regret later.

Want or need?

I am currently shopping for a new stevia shaker.  This has become a need. I buy my stevia from THM in a baggie and then transfer to my shaker.  The one I use now was from a purchase of stevia a couple years ago, but it is not very air tight and it just looks yucky. Amazon has a couple nice ones, but I am not sure I’ll be happy with them. Will they be air tight, are the holes fine enough, is it durable? I don’t want buyers regret.

Reality Check

I double checked the bank account and decided that it is not a need right now. Funny how that works!

Walking through goodwill last month I saw a cute tote that would work for toy storage. I picked it up and put it in my cart. As I continued shopping I realized I have plenty of similar things at home, crates, totes, baskets ect… maybe I should just re-purpose one of those for toy storage. It is such a freeing feeling to put something back and realize that you don’t need it!

Truly a Need ?

Sometimes there are true needs, like new work or school clothes, new tires, or a vegetable seeds for the garden. If it is a real need, we will find that often we already have the means to fill the need! This is especially true if the budget is tight and we have been careful to not squander our resources. Sometimes we have to get creative and make it ourselves or sell something to purchase something else. Bartering with a friend who has the needed skill could also be an option. I would gladly do sewing for a friend who liked to paint, or babysit for a friend with graphic skills.

It is a tricky thing, Want vs Need ! If we really stop and think about what we have it helps put it into perspective. Working on our spirit of gratitude also help immensely! If we are grateful for what we already have, only then will we truly be satisfied with what we have.

What are your current wants or needs? What have you re-purposed lately to fill a need?
